Ban Fur Farms, Pamela Tells Finland June 23, 2007

Finland must move into the 21st century and stop fur farming, television star Pamela Anderson said in an appeal to the Nordic country’s president.

In an open letter to President Tarja Halonen, Anderson said: “I am proud of my Finnish family roots, but I was disappointed to learn that more foxes are killed in Finland than nearly anywhere else in the world.”Anderson, who campaigns for animal rights, was visiting Finland to celebrate Midsummer’s night.
Halonen thanked Anderson for the letter, but said it was up to the Finnish government to make decisions on fur farming, the Finnish news agency STT said.

Reality show star Jade Goody is reportedly ‘devastated’ after suffering a miscarriage of the baby she was expecting with beau Jack Tweed. The 25-year-old, who was caught in a controversy after the Big Brother racial row with Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, was ‘thrilled’ about the baby as it came as a ’surprise’. Sadly for Goody and Tweed, they lost the baby a few days back when the reality TV star miscarried. And though she was taken to the hospital, it was too late for the doctors to save her child, a source reveals. “Now she is absolutely devastated. The pregnancy came as a surprise, though she and Jack were looking forward to the baby after a very tough few months. She was taken to hospital and told there was nothing the doctors could do. It was very early days still,” the Sun quoted the source, as saying. Goody and Tweed have been seeing each other for the past two years, and now live together along with the telly star’s two kids from her relationship with Jeff Brazier.

The lucky producer is Ronnie Screwvala whose next unnamed film has been signed by Mallika for free. Mallika has been in the news recently because of her ten-minute Rs. 1.5 crore act in Himesh Reshammiya’s debut movie as an actor Aap Ka Suroor and this was not the first time she did an expensive stint. Earlier too, Mallika charged a huge amount for just an item song in Guru and how can one forget the new year bash where she has been paid in lakhs for a ten-minute performance by a Mumbai based five star hotel. Spice Girls fans can rejoice, for the all-girl British band will be reuniting for a world tour that could see them add 10 million pounds each to their bank accounts. An insider revealed that Virgin is so keen to keep Posh, Ginger, Sporty, Scary and Baby happy, that not only are they willing to shelve out a large amount of cash, but also spend money on hiring five private jets to take each of the singers – and their respective entourages – to the countries they tour. “This deal has taken years to sign off. But finally all of the girls are on board. It’s going to be one of the most phenomenal pop events ever. No expense is being spared to make this an unrivalled spectacular,” the Mirror quoted the source, as saying. As for the huge amount – that was doubled from the previous offer of 10million pounds each – well it seems that for Virgin, the price was too paltry given the revenue the reunion tour is bound to generate.

Paris Hilton is feeling thankful. The 26-year-old heiress, who is set to be released from jail soon, told Ryan Seacrest of E! News that her “gratitude has gone up so much” since she’s been behind bars. Hilton has been in custody since June 3. She is housed in the special-needs unit of the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, a suburb of Los Angeles. She called Seacrest Thursday to talk about how the experience has changed her. “I’m much more grateful for everything that I have, even just to have a pillow at night or food,” she said. Serving time has been tough, she said, and visits with her family have been emotional.

Rumours have it that Celina Jaitley will replace the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s ‘Prithviraj Chauhan’. Dwivedi, who made news with Pinjar , a film that was set during partition, had shown interest to make another periodical based on the life of Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan and was keen to cast Ash in the female lead role. Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi too wanted to make a film on Prithviraj and he had approached Ash to play the same role. It was Ajay Devgan who was to play Santoshi’s Prithviraj Chauhan. “I will be a part of that director’s film, who launches his movie first,” Ash had said then. However, rumours now have it that Dwivedi is keen to cast Celina in the lead role. Insiders also say that Ash’s recent marriage to Abhishek Bachchan has made the director consider Celina for the stellar role. A source close to Celina confirmed that Dwivedi was considering Celina to play the Rajkumari with whom Prithviraj Chauhan falls in love. “Celina has been approached for the said role but it is too premature to say anything now.” The source added that Celina has been wanting to do a period film for a while now.

Signing an Aamir Khan film is definitely a boon for any actress. And when news spread that the producer of Aamir’s next film Ghajini was on the lookout for two actresses to be cast opposite the Khan, every actress worth her mascara tried her luck. Initially, Ayesha Takia was supposed to do one of the lead roles, but she later backed out of the film for reasons unknown. Then there was news that Kangana Ranaut had signed the film, however, when the actress went to town proclaiming her good fortune, Aamir reportedly was quite miffed with her and decided to drop the idea of casting her. Priyanka Chopra was then said to be next in line for the same role, and the actress reports claimed, was very keen to sign the film. Unfortunately, that was not to be. South actress Asin was signed on, much to everyone’s surprise. And now that latest is that Jiah Khan has also been roped in. The source confirmed, “Yes, Jiah Khan has been signed on as one of the leading ladies along with Asin. In the storyline, one actress plays a part in the past and the other actress plays a part in the future. While Asin has been roped in to play the first part, Jiah has been cast in the latter role.” For Jiah, this is yet another feather in her cap. After debuting in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Nishabd , the actress seems to be bagging films only with the best. Though Jiah herself was unavailable for comment, we must say, she is one lucky girl!

Kate Hudson Has Date with ‘Bachelor June 22, 2007

Kate Hudson is set to star opposite Dane Cook in the comedy “Bachelor No. 2.” Cook plays a man hired to take girls out on terrible dates to prompt them to return to boyfriends they left. Conflict ensues when he offers his services to his best friend and falls for the girl, played by Hudson. Production is slated to begin in August in Boston, with Howard Deutch directing from Jordan Cahan’s screenplay. A third-quarter 2008 release is planned via Lionsgate. Hudson was in theaters last year with “You, Me and Dupree.” She stars opposite Matthew McConaughey in “Fool’s Gold,” set for a February 2008 release. Cook’s recent credits include “Employee of the Month” and “Mr. Brooks.”

Singer Joss Stone denies that she has developed a close friendship with British Royal Prince William. Her reaction scotches a Daily Mirror report that claimed that William had been calling Stone to perform at the upcoming concert for his late mother Diana, and that the two were becoming pals. Although a representative for Stone admitted that the singer had received calls from William, he insisted that the two had talked about the songs that should be sung at the concert, and that the claims of their closeness were untrue. “They talked about what songs she is going to sing at the concert and that gets translated into a story about how William has been bombarding her with calls,” People magazine quoted Dave Woolf as saying. He also revealed that Stone would sing her song ‘You HadMe’, a cover of Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’, and a Tina Turner song that the young Royal’s late mother particularly liked. “Princess Diana was always a fan of Tina Turner,” Woolf says. The representative further said that at the time of Diana’s tragic demise, Stone was only ten, and that she learnt about the late princess’ likings from William. “She is really pleased to be involved in the event and was anxious that she do something that would have meant something to the princess as opposed to singing any old three songs. She wanted to get direct input about what they wanted her to do,” Woolf said.
