Hrithik Roshan turns down Superman September 30, 2007

What’s with Hrithik Roshan and his latest trend of turning down Hollywood films? First he said no to Omkara director Vishal Bhadwaj’s script which was to star Uma Thurman in it, then the Pink Panther sequel with Steve Martin and now comes the news that the superstar has also said no to a role in Superman! It is believed that Hrithik received an offer to act in the latest installment of the film. “The producers of Superman had seen Hrithik’s work in Krrish and what a hit the film had become. Also, Hrithik definitely has the looks that would work in the West and therefore they approached him for the role,” says a close associate of the star.

Hrithik had earlier turned down a role in Pink Panther 2 which was then lapped up by Andy Garcia. But unlike in Pink Panther, Roshan failed to even ask for the script in the case of Superman! Hrithik is currently nursing an injured leg which has also put a stop to the completion of Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar following which Hrithik will begin on the scripting sessions for Krrish 2. “It’s not the Hrithik is not looking to do Hollywood films. He would love to but he isn’t going to jump at every script that comes his way,” says the source. Hrithik’s international looks, superb physique, dancing skills and good acting skills have helped him develop a major fan following amongst Asians and non-Asians alike in the West. He has already come into the notice of directors and production houses in Hollywood and has also featured in Hollywood publications such as the Los Angeles Times as well as the Hollywood Reporter. With so much popularity already in Hollywood one can’t help but wonder what could have prompted Hrithik to turn down a blockbuster like Superman. Could it be that he is giving greater importance to daddy Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish 2 or that he doesn’t want to go from playing India’s numero uno superhero to a side kick to Hollywood’s number one superhero?

Madonna Nominated for Rock Hall of Fame September 30, 2007

Pop diva Madonna, hip-hop band ‘Beastie Boys’, and ‘Queen of Disco’ Donna Summer are among stars who have been nominated for induction into the US ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’. Also among the contenders are Leonard Cohen, John Mellencamp, Chic, the Dave Clark Five and Afrika Bambaataa. According to the Billboard magazine, the nominees selected by a committee will be whittled down to a final list of five by more than 600 music experts, who will enter the hall in March. Musician can be considered for the honour of being inducted into the Cleaveland-based hall only 25 years after their first recording, reports the BBC. Last year, the honour of being inducted into the hall was conferred on rock band R.E.M., hip-hop star Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Van Halen, the Ronettes and Patti Smith. The artists included in the hall are featured in the Museum’s Hall of Fame exhibit, which includes a computerised jukebox containing every song of every inductee and a film on three big screens recounting their careers and music.

Evan Rachel Wood Plans Singing Career September 30, 2007

Actress Evan Rachel Wood has confessed that she prefers music to movies; therefore she is planning to launch a singing career. Wood, who is currently dating Marilyn Manson, however revealed that she wants to be careful when she does so, for she knows that people might end up thinking that her songs are written by her boyfriend. “I’m probably even more passionate about music than acting, but I don’t want to do it half-assed,” Contactmusic quoted Wood, as saying. “And when I do, I get to deal with the rumours flying around that my boyfriend wrote all my songs and that I’m just using him for a singing career,” she added. The 19-year-old actress recently hinted that she might take out a gothic Christmas album with her beau.

Beyonce Knowles’ Malaysian Concert Axed September 30, 2007

Beyonce Knowles’ debut Malaysian concert has been cancelled following protests by local Muslim groups.
The sexy singer’s concert was supposed to take place on November 1 in Kuala Lumpur.
The news of the cancellation came from Kuala Lumpur-based concert promoter Pineapple Concerts.
While a ministry official said that the concert had been cancelled because Pineapple did not apply for a license, sources revealed to Billboard magazine that the real reason was Beyonce’s refusal to comply with a dress code, reports the Sun. nder rules introduced by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in 2005, female performers cannot show skin from the tops of their chests to their knees.
Performers, both male and female, are also not allowed to hug or kiss audience members or fellow artists, jump or shout, throw objects onstage or at the audience and use foul language.
Also, clothes could not have obscene or drug-related images or messages.

Priyanka’s Ex-secy Withdraws Petition in SC September 30, 2007

Prakash Jaju, estranged private secretary of Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, Friday withdrew from the Supreme Court his petition challenging her discharge by Madhya Pradesh High Court in a criminal intimidation case.
After the counsel appearing for both parties said that the matter has been settled, a Bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and Altamas Kabir accepted the plea of Jaju to withdraw the petition.
Jaju had moved the petition contending that the High Court had erroneously discharged Priyanka of criminal intimidation charges while acknowledging the same against her father Ashok Chopra and underworld don Chhota Shakeel.

She wore her hair shorter, above her shoulders and styled like an old-fashioned movie star. She loved it like that.’

Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner says no one hits on her now because she is married.
According to contactmusic.com, Garner appeared on a TV talk show and revealed that men showed no interest in her when she tried to get back in shape for her latest movie. Garner trained for a while with the Boston University hockey team shortly after giving birth.
She said: ‘They were doing their strength and fitness stuff, but the problem was they didn’t even care. I mean I showed up and then as I started to shed weight I thought they would flirt with me or something. They just didn’t care. They never said hello and at one point one of them was like ‘Hey, do you know Jessica Alba?”

Kareena, Shahid Heading to Splitsville! September 30, 2007

Kareena Kapoor is clearly demonstrating that she has moved on after her reported break-off with Shahid Kapur. While Kareena is busy painting the town red with Saif Ali Khan, Shahid now ex is still trying his best to get back together. Rumours earlier had it that Shahid was planning a surprise birthday party for Kareena, and had even made arrangements with her sister, Karisma Kapoor . According to the source, Shahid dropped the idea when he saw the photographs of Kareena and Saif, splashed all across the media.

Idols and ironies September 29, 2007

For a few days ahead, there will be a lot of writings on Prashant Tamang’s victory of the “Indian Idol” title. People will not be tired of talking about the Nepali cap he wore as soon as he was declared the Idol. Yes, he had it on above typical Indian attire. But this duality was subsumed into the euphoria of the victory; the cap flashed more as people were intent to see his tearful eyes and elated face. Nepalis of Nepal celebrated his achievement as their own. Nepalis of India took it as an event for communal aggrandizement and identity consolidation. And, here we have read extensive intellectualization of Prashant’s victory as the metaphor for national unity and a lesson for the bickering politicians.

Gere Kiss Still Haunts Shilpa Shetty September 29, 2007

Five months later, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is still feeling the effects of a kiss from Richard Gere. Immigration officials at Mumbai airport briefly detained Shetty, saying she was still wanted for obscenity charges filed in the wake of the public kiss with the Hollywood star, her publicist, Dale Bhagwagar, said Thursday.
Shetty was in tears late Wednesday after being stopped at the airport while on her way to Berlin where the musical “Miss Bollywood” opens this weekend, said Bhagwagar. Shetty plays the musical’s lead role.
“She called me in the middle of the night and was in tears,” said Bhagwagar, adding Shetty was finally permitted to join her dance troupe after prolonged questioning.
