Mary-Kate: I Felt Like Giving Up February 5, 2008

Mary-Kate Olsen has spoken for the first time about her battle with anorexia. The former child star, who rose to fame alongside twin sister Ashley, checked into rehab last year in an attempt to overcome her eating disorder. Despite completing six weeks inside a treatment facility, Mary-Kate still cuts a slight figure, although she has returned to work. She said: “There have definitely been times in my life when I just turned to people and said, ‘I’m done – this is too much for me. This is too over-whelming.’” The actress returns to the big screen this year alongside Sir Ben Kingsley with The Wackness, which featured at the Sundance Film Festival.

The most promising newcomer Deepika Padukone is not caring to keep in touch with the woman who gave her the first big break in Bollywood. After the success of her debut film Om Shanti Om , actress Deepika Padukone has moved on with her newfound fame. She has got projects with big banners in her kitty and is keeping so busy that she doesn’t have time to keep in touch with the OSO director Farah Khan . It has been close to three months when Deepika last spoke with Farah. The two last met at the OSO book launch on November 14, 2007. After that Deepika has rarely been in touch and that too through SMSes. Though Farah is not upset, she is a bit surprised by this aloofness of Deepika. All other actors from OSO, Shreyas Talpade , Arjun Rampal and Kiron Kher often call Farah and inquire about her health as she is expecting triplets. Since early this year Deepika had been shooting the next Yashraj film with Ranbir Kapoor in Australia where she also caught up on cricket matches between India and Australia. Deepika and Ranbir recently returned to Mumbai and were spotted shopping together in the plaza of a five star hotel. But a visit to Farah Khan, which has been due a long time, doesn’t seem to be on Deepika’s wishlist.

Jessica Alba’s parents brought in experts to rid their old home of ghosts after the actress was attacked in bed by a spook. The sexy Latina was 17 when she awoke in the middle of the night in her parent’s guest room after a “presence” ripped the bed sheets off her and lay on top of the pretty star. Alba has had nightmares about the experience ever since. She says, “I had no idea what it was. I felt this pressure and I couldn’t get up, I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t do anything. “Something definitely took the covers off me and I definitely couldn’t get off the bed, and then, once I did, I screamed, ran to my parents’ room and I don’t think I spent many nights in that house ever again. “There’s something in my parents’ old house, I don’t know what it was. I can’t really explain it… They got it blessed and they burned sage and stuff since then.”

She said no to Nagesh Kukunoor, the guy who gave her career’s best film Dor. “I just couldn’t do the kissing scene in Aashayein. We tried to find a way out. But it didn’t work out for me. Fortunately for me, Nagesh is a dear friend. He didn’t hold my no against me. We completed Tasveer with Akshay Kumar in Canada. And there was nothing there to make me uncomfortable.” Ayesha is aware that her more uninhibited colleagues are making hey-hey-hey while she refuses to get bold on camera. “But I don’t mind losing out on roles. At least ten years from now I don’t want to look back and cringe at anything. I’ve a family and a boyfriend. And I don’t want to embarrass anyone.” Ayesha has an exciting year ahead with films with big-league heroes. “I’m working with Ajay Devgan in Sunday, Akshay Kumar in Nagesh Kukunoor’s supernatural-psychological thriller Tasveer. We shot it in one stretch in Canada. Then I’ve Prabhu Deva’s Wanted, an action film with Salman Khan. Here I don’t have much to do. I hang around doing whatever leading ladies do …sing, dance and purse my lips when the hero fights,” she says with disarming honesty. Candid in her self-assessment, she sees a boyfriend as no impediment to her career. “In fact I’m so glad Farhan is no part of the industry. And that he’s a self- made man who loves me for whom I am. I don’t think having a boyfriend is any problem for a career. The only annoying part of having a boyfriend is that every time I’ve a release I’m informed by the press that I’m getting married in two months. It irritates me. When I get married I’ll announce it from rooftops. I’m proud of my boyfriend.” Boyfriend is no problem. But her selfcensorship code does hamper her onward progression. “There’re things that I wouldn’t do, like kiss and wear certain kinds of clothes. And yes that does put me at a disadvantage. But I’m very happy with the work that I’m getting. After Dor I’m being taken seriously as an actress. “ Last year she had a patch of rough whether when Salaam-e-Ishq and No Smoking bombed. “Everyone kept asking why I reappeared in No Smoking in a double role. I’d like all questions about that film to be directed to the director Anurag Kashyap. please. I’ve no clue.It was small role, just ten days’ work I’d do another film for Anurag anytime. He’s a friend.”

Hannah Montana Tops US Box Off February 5, 2008

Teen pop star Hannah Montana has topped the North American box office with the new 3D film of her recent tour. Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds shows actress Cyrus, 15, as herself backstage and onstage as her Disney pop star alter-ego Montana. The film took $29m (£14.7m) beating newly-released horror film The Eye – $13m (£6.6m) – into second place. Romantic comedy 27 Dresses was third with $8.4m (£4.3m). Pregnancy comedy Juno was fourth with $7.5m (£3.8m). Last week’s number one, Meet the Spartans – a spoof film parodying Greek warrior epic 300 – dropped to number five, taking $7.1m (£3.6m) compared with the $18.7m (£9.4m) it took last week. The new Rambo film, meanwhile, dropped from its opening week second place to sixth with $7m (£3.5m). The Hannah Montana movie was helped to the top spot by higher admission prices charged by cinemas because of the 3D format. The film was shown in just 683 cinemas compared with the 2,436 cinemas showing second-placed The Eye.

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl tops askmen.com’s list of the 99 most desirable women. She beat three Victoria’s Secret Models – Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller, and Alessandra Ambrosio. She also defeated the likes of Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johansson, pagesix.com reports. The website compiles the list annually and is meant to represent the woman men think have the most desirable attributes in a companion, beyond basic appearance.
