Acting and singing sensation Miley Cyrus on Saturday night won both worlds at the annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards by grabbing trophies for favorite female singer and TV actress, becoming the only individual double winner of the night.
Miley, who plays Hannah Montana in the hit Disney series, also rocked the crowd of teens and preteens by performing live her new single “G.N.O.—Girl’s Night Out” from her hit album “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus” during the kid-packed show in Los Angeles.
While receiving her award for Favorite Female Singer, the 15-year-old star thanked several people, including her mother, father, agent, manager “and my lord and savior Jesus Christ.”
Donned in a black dress with silver spangles, Miley told the screaming crowd, “I don’t want to get slimed but I am glad to be here.”
In the TV show category, Drake and Josh took home the coveted orange blimp for Favorite TV Show, defeating the competitor Hannah Montana, thus stopping Miley to score a hat trick at the awards. That series star Drake Bell earned the Favorite TV Actor award.
As for the other winners, “American Idol” bagged the reality show honors, while Eddie Murphy won for his voice work in “Shrek The Third” and The Jonas Brothers were named the favorite musical group.
The favorite movie award is grabbed by Jason Lee for “Alvin and the Chipmunks”. Overwhelmed with the achievement, he said, “I’m going to hang this from the ceiling because it’s the greatest award anyone could receive because it was voted on by the kids.”
Awards are voted on through more than 88 million online votes on Nickelodeon’s Web site. The show’s host, Jack Black announced that this year’s voting is more than twice last year’s record number of 40 million.
