The Spice Girls performed their hits for thousands of fans at the O2 arena in London last night as they returned to the country for their world tour.

The show was the group’s first for nine years and the fab five kicked off the concert by telling the crowd how it felt to be back in the UK.

Mel B said she was glad to be back where their careers started when she told the crowd: “Thank God we’re home”, while Geri Halliwell thanked fans for their support.

There were fears that the girl band’s performance would be delayed after Baby Spice, Emma Bunton, sprained her ankle in a concert in the US last week. However, she bravely soldiered on with support for her ankle at last night’s show.

During the gig the band performed hits including Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life for the crowd and went through numerous dress changes for each set. Individual band members also sang hits from their solo careers.

Yesterday’s performance was the first of 19 to take place in the UK. A further 16 more shows will be held in London while there are two performances for fans in Manchester.
